History of WEP

West End Pediatrics has, in some form, been a part of the Upper West Side of Manhattan for 25 years and a part of the Washington Square area for over 15 years.

1987 – The practice begins as “Softness and Rosenfeld”. Drs. Barney Softness and Suzanne Rosenfeld share an office in Schwab House (73rd and West End) with an internist.
1988 – Dr. Michael Rosenbaum covers the practice on weekends while finishing his fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at The New York Hospital and Rockefeller University.
1989 – The practice moves to its current location on West End Avenue between 81st and 82nd street.
Dr. Michael Rosenbaum joins the practice after the birth of his son. “Softness and Rosenfeld” becomes “West End Pediatrics”

Caption: West End Pediatrics was a reunion of sorts. Drs. Rosenbaum and Softness had both attended Amherst College and majored in neuroscience. Drs. Softness and Rosenfeld had been medical school classmates at Columbia. All 3 of them had been in overlapping residences at Columbia Presbyterian (Babies) Hospital.

1993 – Dr. Adine Brandes joins West End Pediatrics after being the Assistant Director of the Emergency Room at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York.
1996 – Dr. Nena Osorio joins West End Pediatrics after completing her chief residency in pediatrics at The New York Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
1997 – Washing Square office opens.
2002 – Dr. Osorio decides to return the New York Hospital to work in a hospital-based setting.
2003 – Dr. Lisa Thebner joins West End Pediatrics from an academic practice affiliated with Schneider Children’s Hospital and an active media career as a health expert on NBC Today.

Caption: Dr. Thebner spent a month at West End Pediatrics while she was a pediatric resident at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein School of Medicine. We all hoped that she would return… and she did!
