After-Hours Pediatric Care in NYC
Children don't get sick on a schedule. A fever can spike at midnight, an earache can start on a Sunday morning, and a worried parent shouldn't have to wait until Monday for answers. At West End Pediatrics, we believe your family deserves access to a pediatrician who knows your child — not an anonymous answering service or an urgent care physician meeting them for the first time.

That's why a doctor from our practice is always available, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. When you call after hours, you will always reach one of our own board-certified pediatricians. No one else ever covers our practice.
A Doctor Is Always Available - Day or Night
Unlike many pediatric practices in Manhattan, we never use outside coverage groups or nurse triage lines to handle after-hours calls. When you phone our office outside of regular hours, you are connected directly to one of the six pediatricians you already know and trust. Whether it's a holiday weekend, a late evening, or early morning, the doctor on call is a member of our team who has access to your child's history and understands the context of your concern.

Our Upper West Side office is also open every morning including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays for urgent visits. If your child needs to be seen rather than managed over the phone, we can often arrange a same-morning appointment so you don't have to navigate a crowded emergency room for a non-emergency situation.
What to Do When Your Child Needs Care After Hours
If your child becomes ill or injured outside of our regular office hours, here's how to get in touch with us:
Call our main office number. Our answering service will promptly connect you with the on-call pediatrician. The doctor will listen to your concerns, help you assess the situation, and advise you on next steps, whether that's home care, a televisit, a morning appointment at our office, or a trip to the emergency room.

For situations that are not immediately urgent but still concerning, such as a persistent cough, a rash that appeared after dinner, or questions about medication dosing, our on-call doctor can provide guidance over the phone or through a remote consultation, giving you clarity and peace of mind without leaving your home.
When to Call vs. When to Visit the Emergency Room
We encourage families to call us first in most situations. Our pediatricians can help you determine whether your child's symptoms require emergency care or whether they can be safely managed at home or in our office the following morning.

Some situations do require immediate emergency room care, including difficulty breathing, unresponsiveness, seizures, or a serious injury. Through our affiliation with NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell and our longstanding relationships with pediatric specialists across the city's major hospitals, we can help coordinate your child's care if hospitalization or specialist evaluation is needed.

For everything else, including fevers, stomach bugs, ear pain, minor injuries, allergic reactions, and the many other concerns that arise after bedtime, calling us first can save you hours of waiting in an emergency room and ensure your child receives care from a doctor who knows them.
Why Families on the Upper West Side and Greenwich Village Trust Us After Hours
For over 30 years, West End Pediatrics has served families across Manhattan's Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, and surrounding neighborhoods including Chelsea, Tribeca, Midtown West, and Hell's Kitchen. Our commitment to after-hours availability is one of the reasons families choose us and stay with us, from their child's first days through college.

We understand that parenting in New York City comes with its own set of challenges, and having a trusted pediatrician you can reach at any hour is not a luxury. It's a necessity. Our small practice size means we know your child, we know your family, and we are always here when you need us.
